


The tourist literature will tell you, is a land like no other, and this is no idle boast. Lying just off the south-east coast of India, with its southern tip barely 30 kilometres from the equator this is a tropical island that for centuries has attracted the covetous gazes of people from all over the world.

Colombo is essentially a colonial city, which rose to preeminence only until after the 19th century and the establishment of British power. Before that it was much less of an important town than Galle. However today, is has become the main focal point for hustle and bustle in the Sub-Indian continent; there’s so much to experience in Colombo, be it tradition, the people, or the food; the city surely has plenty to offer.

The city of Kandy lies at an altitude of 488 metres above sea level in the centre of the island and surrounded by the ranges of mountains. It is still very much a focal point of Sri Lankan culture. It is regarded as the country’s cultural capital, and it is listed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

Facing the Indian Ocean, a tropical lagoon and a major river Bentota offers water sports. Apart from swimming, body-surfing or diving in the sea, you can jet-ski, windsurf, parasail or enjoy a romantic river safari on the river and lagoon.

Habarana City is a small city in the Anuradhapura District of Sri Lanka. Habarana is a popular tourist destination for safari lovers as it is the starting point for safaris in the nearby Habarana jungle and the Minneriya sanctuary which is heavily populated by elephants. Elephant back riding is also an attraction in this small city. It is situated on the main road from Colombo to Trincomalee and Polonnaruwa.

Stranded on the hill country of Sri Lanka, Nuwara Elya is often referred to as Little England, thanks to its heavily influenced colonial-style architecture. Nuwara Elya is significantly different from rest of the country, and it adds a different flavor to the country.
